In 2021, Agustin Diz (University of Edinburgh) collaborated with Svenja Meyerricks (CHE) and Silvia Pergetti (University of Edinburgh) to facilitate two online workshops which brought together community group spokespersons, researchers, policymakers and other stakeholders to introduce and discuss connections between community energy and alternative economies. They then conducted follow-up interviews with key stakeholders from the community energy sector as well as activists, advocates, and academics.
The resulting report ALTERNATIVE ECONOMIES AND COMMUNITY ENERGY IN SCOTLAND:
POWERING A NEW ECONOMY FROM THE GROUND UP summarises and analyses key findings from these events and interviews, exploring in particular the following questions:
- Can community energy projects contribute to and benefit from ongoing discussions about alternative economies?
- Might community energy organisations play a pioneering role in implementing and operationalising alternative economies?
- Could the community energy sector benefit from translating practices that are already in place in into the kinds of language that activists, policymakers and advocacy groups are using?
