Govan faces challenging years ahead – service cuts and new developments such as the planned new bridge, retail park and campus. Who is this development for? Who plans Govan’s future?
This workshop will be run jointly by CHE and Roland Playle + Jamie Hamilton from the Community Chartering Network – read more about them here.
During the workshop we will we will discuss ideas for taking a Plan for Govan forward which draws upon a variety of community planning processes such as:
- Past experiences of and learnings from resident-led initiatives in Govan and the Thriving Places plan.
- Community Life Plans (CLPs), developed in 2018-2019 for communities within the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. These are consensual, holistic, aspirational and practical Local Place Plans which have since become a basis for the development of a new planning and land use framework for the area.
- The Plan De Vida (PDV), a deep and sophisticated process of community rejuvenation upon which CLPs are based. The PDV was developed by the Misak indigenous people in Colombia, where its achievements have been significant.
- Scotland’s (and the UK’s) first Community Charter, and the participation of 16 Scottish communities in the 2017 “Talking Fracking” national public consultation.
- Enablers and constraints of the Scottish Planning System, including the potential opportunities represented by Local Place Plans, the Community Empowerment Act and other new planning legislation for which guidance is currently under development.
No booking required – just come along! Tea, coffee and light refreshments provided.
