Over twenty NGOs, not-for-profit organisations and community activists
have been filling up their think tanks with concepts, tools and
collective learning for Strategic Campaigning.
Three separate training events held early this year were promoted and
organised by CHE Fellow Claire Carpenter of Creating Connections; and
delivered by Michelle Sheather, Greenpeace International Campaigns
trainer and CHE MSc student (2001 - current). The timing has been
right, and all the trainings were a great success - for individuals and
organisations alike.
The G8 in Scotland this summer highlights the need
for Scottish NGOs to think strategically about their activities,
whether they’re directly involved in the Make Poverty History Campaign
or not. A 2-day event was held in Edinburgh for individuals
representing many aspects of the eco-social justice movement and
included representatives from Tearfund, Community TU, Volunteer
Development Scotland, Concern, Scottish Water, SSEC, and the Soil
Association.
The interest generated by this unique training opportunity
also created two bespoke training days; one delivered to WWF Scotland
in Birnam, and the other to the Scottish Green Group at the Scottish
Parliament in Edinburgh. To assist in the strategic development,
campaigns and activities of all these interesting individuals and
organisations has been a great joy. Alone, we can achieve a small
amount, but together, in our diverse ways, and by drawing on our
individual skills and natural talents, we can really shape the future
we want to create.
It’s been very inspiring and rewarding for all
involved - the feedback and the buzz has been great, and we definitely
intend to run such events again. For more information, testimonials and
