Community Leadership
Across the world there are people from all walks of life who prove, that with imagination, conviction and love, we can re-shape our communities for the better. Our aim is to learn from and support these pioneers and other emerging community leaders.

We recognise their existing talent, commitment and values, and through networking, mentoring, and training, aim to be a positive force for leadership that generates real results on local – and global – priorities.

The work of local people can benefit from the support of allies in public bodies and in businesses. We offer coaching and training to professional practitioners who genuinely back local initiatives and are striving to transform the structures and cultures of their organisations.

Participative & responsive democracy

By working simultaneously with community leaders and professional practitioners we aim to help create a more participative and responsive democracy  – a key condition for genuinely sustainable ecological and social regeneration.

Current and recent work includes:
  • Working with City of Edinburgh Council officers and community representatives to develop effective community participation and engagement practices to maximise the potential of community planning legislation.
  • We are a member of EMPOWER Scotland, a partnership of five – soon to be twelve – organisations working to fight racism and xenophobia in the workplace across Scotland.
  • We are launching an inquiry, supported by WWF International, into the role of spiritual values in shaping integrated economic, social and environmental regeneration.

Our current objectives are to:
  • Continue to develop, support and promote approaches to community leadership and professional practice which are rooted in creativity, compassion and critical awareness
  • Develop the role of the creative arts in our work
