Graduate & Director - Chloë Smee |
|
Originally from Essex, Chloë moved to Edinburgh for the MSc, which she
completed in 2005. She works with the Sustainable Scotland Network,
supporing local authorities on sustainable development.
Chloë writes: The thesis I undertook in conjunction with the CHE
focussed on the role of dialogue and community participation in the
development of sustainable social housing projects in Scotland.
This, and other factors, encouraged me to seek funding to undertake a
freelance project which aimed to profile and promote the role of
proactive local planning authorities in developing sustainable
housing. My work with local authorities through this project was
key to igniting my conviction in the central role of local government
in create the conditions for a more sustainable Scotland: a conviction
which I am pursuing in my present role with SSN.
The MSc in Human Ecology was invaluable in giving me a strong
foundation in both the theory and practice of sustainable development,
whilst helping me to ferment my personal relationships with places,
people, politics and – vitally - my moral compass. The models for
learning, teaching and engaging that the CHE practices have been a
verdant source of instruction and inspiration.
