An excerpt from CHE graduate Jamie Whittle's forthcoming book, White River (Sandstone Press, October 2007)....
I’ve watched the colours
Of the stone
Change in the light
And in the weather
From every shade
Of honey
Cream
Pink and ochre
Seen the aspen
Shiver to saffron
The bloodening
Of the rowan
And the bronzing
Of the bracken
Beneath the violet skies
Of autumn
Shivered at delicious
Dark
Deep water channels
Funnelling
Through shelves
And ledges
At the branches of light
Projected from ripples
Onto buttress walls
Felt but transitory
In the steeped
Experience
Of compressions
Folds
And waves of rock
Yet for each moment
Each passing moment
Part of the picture
Witnessing
The changes
Outwith and within |
