I am a fan of the Centre for Human Ecology, which quietly brings great credit to Scotland.

Journeys in Human Ecology
Written by Centre for Human Ecology

There will be a great chance for prospective students to hear more about the subject when ‘Journeys in Human Ecology’, takes place at the Phoenix Centre in Glasgow later this month.

The event will hear from Human Ecologists who, after studying at the CHE, have gone on to create their own unique “journey in Human Ecology”. The event is aimed at the CHE’s students, graduates and wider membership, as well as for people considering taking one of the CHE’s courses.

The evening will begin with a reception at around 5.15pm before four presentations lasting a total of just over an hour.

The speakers include Claire Carpenter who will talk about her ‘Melting Pot’ project based in Edinburgh to inspire, resource and support social pioneers, and Robert Swinfen who has helped set up The Eco-Renovation Network – an initiative to encourage individuals to take action on the sustainability of their homes.

It is also hoped that David Mowat will be able to attend to talk about his Pilgrimage from Bristol to Jerusalem and experiences with Palestinian people, while Chloe Smee will talk about her work with the Sustainable Scotland Network – working to enable local government to make sustainability a reality.

Following this will be an hour long open space session. MSc graduate and CHE board member Adam Howard, who is helping to organise the event, said: “The ‘Open Space’ will be a chance to circulate, ask questions, hear more and begin conversations about possible connections, such as skills and time exchanges.”

The evening will conclude with a simple ”Pot Luck” Meal and a Ceilidh so please bring along a dish – either oven-heatable, or something cold – and a bottle, and especially instruments, poems, party pieces…!
