I hate
universities,
where you absorb string theories in elite corridors,
where subsidized alcoholism training
is mandatory on entry,
where cramming for exams for jobs for salaries
is the order of things,
where passion for subjects drains off
at the advance of desiccating logic,
where the heart is a meaty pump
in a jar marked ‘specimens’,
I fill out my form and crave acceptance.
Davy Forsyth graduated from
CHE in 2005 with an MSc in Human Ecology. He read this poem - written
before he started the course - at his graduation to contrast his experience at CHE with his perception of
higher education! |
