"As an environmental lawyer I find - on a daily basis - that the
content and substance of the MSc enrich and provide me with an
invaluable insight into the work I do. I know of no university course
in the world that comes close to offering the honest critique and
mind-expanding
exploration of environmental and social issues that can be found on this unique journey of self-discovery at CHE."
Jamie Whittle (Scotland)
"I strongly felt CHE was the right place to go to. I'm really glad I trusted my feelings!"
Alexandra de Pretto (Switzerland)
"The decision to do the Masters course at the CHE was taken in a
small village in rural Ghana, reading the adverts in the Guardian
Weekly. The thing which immediately attracted me to it was the
cross-disciplinary nature of the course, particularly with the bold
reference to spirituality - who ever saw adverts for courses combining
economics, ecology and spirituality?! I was looking for an academic
grounding to help me to contribute to the well-being of the world. I
sensed a huge potential on the horizon and wanted to explore. The CHE
exceeded any expectations I had, providing both process and content
which gave me a platform from which to go out and engage the world.
My work now includes facilitating change communities in a large
multinational bank, training european youth leaders, and advising
Vaclav Havel's Bridging Global Gaps initiative with top business, civil
society and governance leaders. The greatest gift CHE has given me is
the confidence to do the work I love without compromise."
Peter Merry (England/Netherlands)
"I have thoroughly enjoyed the Masters course at CHE for many reasons:
I have met a lot of like-minded individuals, and made great friends
with students and staff. I love the way that there is not a strong
staff-student hierarchy. The course has really boosted my confidence
and enabled me to feel like a genuine change agent, and this is what I
have become through the CHE.
Studying at the CHE opened doors into my current work (in the Edinburgh
Peace and Justice Centre), helping me to integrate my thoughts and
personal ambitions with my actions.
I am currently completing my thesis on ecovillages and Scottish
Planning Policy which I hope will have many positive ramifications in
the future."
Lusi Alderslowe (England)
"...I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to study at CHE - it's
been such a refreshing, challenging year of growth! My decision
to come here was purely intuitive - I saw they had a module called
'Spiritual Activism' and made my decision then - and am delighted that I
did!"
Chriss Bull (New Zealand)
"CHE has given me the confidence and authority to step into my power.
I had been looking at MSc programmes around the country and visiting
universities for 3 years, I even did a module at another university but
felt consistently let down by archaic academic content of courses and
learning styles. In interviews at these universities I was
consistently talked down to and not looked in the eye; I felt
frustrated and oppressed. CHE was a breath of fresh air where
new thinking, inspiration, combined with solid academic learning was
forthcoming and abundant. I felt supported and respected during
my time at CHE.
My time at CHE has enabled me to step forward with my life work and to
start to take responsibility for the challenges that come my
way. I have set up a not-for-profit company to take forward
a project to build affordable eco-homes with social and environmental
justice at its core. I have had good success in fund raising and
engaging with the community and the power structures of local
government.
Spending time with the staff of CHE helped me to give myself permission
to shine. Set into an academic framework CHE allows space for spirit to
develop; it allows the possibility for intuition and other ways of
being."
Rupert Hawley (England)
"I came from the Czech Republic as a mature student with a keen
interest in the hidden economic reasons behind the environmental crisis
and in viable bottom-up alternatives. The Postgraduate Diploma in Human
Ecology gave me the skills, knowledge and confidence to be better at my
chosen work: research, writing and teaching in the fields of human
ecology and ecological/new economics. It also helped me to look at
things in new ways and provided me with a valuable network of friends
whose expertise I have since drawn upon."
Nadia Johanisova (Czech Republic)
“I've valued my CHE experience very highly indeed.”
Chris Buxton (England)
“I often think of my time at CHE with huge appreciation and warmth.”
Rachael Trotman (New Zealand)
"Since graduating from CHE I have found that without exception, everything I learned has proved immensely valuable. I am dedicated to spreading the insights of Human Ecology into the higher education sector and want to thank all the staff for what that they shared with me during the course."
Arran Stibbe (England)
