Eigg Field Trip 2005 At the heart of the Centre for Human Ecology is its network of Fellows, Graduates, Students and Directors. With over 150 people in locations all over the world, CHE is truly building a global community. Fellow & Director - Vérène Nicolas

Verene NicolasVérène is course coordinator of the MSc, and she co-developped the Community Programme, working with marginalised communities across Scotland and enabling community activists to acquire skills in critical thinking, local community action and participative democracy.

Fellow - Crispin W. Hayes

Crispin W. HayesCrispin is an Independent Eco-Consultant who has contributed to the core of the MSc and co-developed the Food Culture & Agri-Culture option module. He is also a cofounder of CHE Consulting. His interests are carbon, food, localisation, and community & environment.

Eurig ScandrettEurig is uses popular education for social change, as a sociology lecturer and in collaboration with the environmental justice movement and Friends of the Earth. He is also involved in pro-feminist men's activities, and is a member of Iona community and Ashram community.

Fellow - Jennifer Batty (BSc PhD)

Jennifer BattyPart of the MSc team, Jennifer's ecological research has focussed on impacts of chemical pollutants on wildlife. Her current interests are in Ecoliteracy and developing workshops and course materials to enhance understanding of our impacts on, and engagement with, nature.

Fellow - Osbert Lancaster

Osbert LancasterOsbert is a director of Footprint Consulting, an ethical enterprise which helps organisations in the transition to a sustainable future. He also leads the CHE Ethical Enterprise at the University of Strathclyde. He was formerly executive director of CHE for seven years, until January 2008.

Fellow - Tessa Ransford

Tessa RansfordA Royal Literary Fund Fellow at Queen Margaret University, Tessa taught the option module 'Creativity in Life and Art' from 2001-2005. She is a writer, poet, and cultural activist, and also works with Scottish PEN, campaigning for freedom from oppression for writers worldwide.

Nick WildingNick has over ten years' experience in popular education, groupwork faciliation and action learning/research consultancy. He is a Teaching Fellow at Strathclyde, and a doctoral student with the University of Bath Management School's Centre for Action Research in Professional Practice. He teaches the Action Research option module.

Adam HowardAdam completed the MSc in 2006. He is currently working as a facilitator with three “more than profit” organisations to identify needs, clarify visions and develop strategies. He also helps to develop CHE events, connecting Human Ecology insights with the needs of Glasgow’s communities.

Myshele GoldbergOriginally from the US, Myshele completed the MSc in 2005, and is currently working on her PhD in Sociology at the University of Strathclyde. Passionate about writing and social transformation, she writes a monthly education column in the Scotsman, and edits the CHE newsletter.

Claire Carpenter A 2003 graduate, Claire is founder of The Melting Pot, a social enterprise in central Edinburgh which acts as an incubator for progressive initiatives. It's a new kind of work and social space, to inspire and support social pioneers to realise imaginative initiatives for a radically better world.

Dave KeyA graduate in 2003, Dave now co-leads the Ecopsychology module. He is also Director of Footprint Consulting, a social enterprise which uses Ecopsychology to help organisations move towards sustainability. He lives in Kingussie with his partner and young daughter.

 
Graduate & Fellow - Samantha Graham

Samantha Graham Originally from Sydney, Australia, Samantha was part of the first MSc cohort, graduating in 1993. After living in Scotland for 8 years, she returned to Sydney to run a sustainability & cultural transformation consultancy, working with businesses, NGOs, and local government.

Arran StibbeArran graduated from CHE in January 2006 after completing a dissertation outlining an approach to ecoliteracy based on critical awareness of the ways that language constructs society. He is now a senior lecturer in linguistics at the University of Gloucestershire.

Emily Hunter After graduating in 2006, Emily moved to Vancouver, Canada. She now teaches English and History to Korean high school students, volunteers as a literacy tutor at the Carnegie Centre, and writes poetry supported by a group of women writers.

Hannah Judge-BrownHannah has particular interest in community building and mobilisation, and connecting peace, planet and people. In the past she has undertaken a range of work in development, environmental and social justice campaigning and education and community building. She graduated in 2007.

Helen Jeans Originally trained as a lawyer, Helen spent 10 years working in the Pacific Islands as a development manager with an international NGO and the European Commission. Interested in processes that enable communities to flourish, she graduated in 2007.

Henning Drager Originally from Denmark, Henning completed his MSc in 2006. He is now living in London, working with Friends of the Earth as executive assistant to Tony Juniper, and leader of the organisational coordination team. His profile can be found here.

Mary Anna Wright After completing the MSc in 1994, Mary Anna went on to earn a PhD, studying cultural change. She now lives in London, working as a qualified coach focusing on professional development, and leading an international group of researchers who examine the impact of consciousness exploration.

Norah Barnes Originally from Edinburgh, Norah completed the MSc in 2002. She now lives on the Scottish isle of Eigg, with her partner Bob Wallace (also a CHE graduate) and three small children. Together they run the Earth Connections Sustainability Centre.

Sam HarrisonAfter completing the MSc in 2005, Sam started Open Ground, a business combining  wilderness experiences with personal and social development. Now living in Oban, he also works with the GalGael Trust in Glasgow, and is a part-time PhD student in Outdoor Education at the University of Edinburgh.

Todd LeVasseurAfter completing the MSc in 2005, Todd began working on a PhD in Religion at the University of Florida, with an emphasis on Religion and Nature. His MSc dissertation looked at Liberation Spirituality and the G8. Todd lives with his wife in Gainesville, Florida.

 
Graduate - Tom Ingall

Tom IngallTom lives in Warwickshire with his partner Caz and young daughter, and they have established an organic community food project on their small farm, giving people a direct connection to the land and to the process of growing their food.  They are also establishing a Forest Garden and other local projects.

Jenny PatientIn addition to studying on the MSc part-time, Jenny works in Sheffield as a freelance tutor in the community sector. Her background is in community regeneration, managing computer projects, and activism. She is interested in collaborating on projects around learning, community and sustainable culture.

Martin ForbesOriginally from Aberdeen, Martin's background is in management accountancy, primarily in the oil industry. He is currently on the MSc course to spark a career shift, having discovered the CHE through seeking an Ecopsychology course. He has travelled extensively throughout the world.
